TERMS OF SERVICE
The deal, in plain words.
Last updated 28 July 2026. Watima is operated by DataBeeper LLC.
By reserving a place, creating an account, or using a Watima device, you agree to what follows. It is written to be read, not to be survived.
1. Who can use this
You must be 18 or over to create an account. The account is held by a parent or guardian, who sets it up on behalf of a child and remains responsible for how it is used. A device does nothing until an adult has paired it to an account.
2. What the service does
Watima listens when a child holds the button, works out an answer, and speaks it aloud. The answer is pitched to the age you set. It then stops — there is no conversation to continue and nothing that suggests a next thing.
3. What it is not
- It is not always right. Answers come from a language model and will sometimes be wrong, incomplete or out of date. An answer is the start of a conversation with you, not a source of record. Do not rely on it for anything that matters — medical, legal, financial or safety.
- It is not an emergency device. It cannot call anyone, it does not know where your child is, and it only works on your home Wi-Fi.
- It is not a supervisor. It does not watch your child, and it is not a substitute for you.
4. Tokens
Answering costs us money per question, so usage is metered in tokens. A Watima token is not the "roughly a word" token you may have seen elsewhere: it covers the whole turn, including understanding the question, working out the answer, speaking it aloud, and our own running costs.
- A device ships with a token balance included in the purchase price.
- Tokens do not expire, and they are shared across every device on your account.
- How far a balance goes depends on your child's age, because older children get longer answers. Your live balance and usage are always visible in the dashboard.
- When the balance reaches zero the device says so out loud and stops answering until you top up. It does not stop being a device — see section 6.
- Tokens are a prepaid measure of usage, not money, not currency, and cannot be exchanged, transferred between accounts, or redeemed for cash.
5. Payment and refunds
Prices are shown before you buy. There is no subscription and nothing recurring: you buy the device, and you buy tokens when you want more. Nothing is charged without your explicit action.
If the device arrives faulty, we will replace or refund it. If you change your mind about a token top-up before any of it is spent, email us and we will refund it.
6. The hardware is yours
The device is a standard ESP32-S3 module. When you buy it, you own it outright.
If you stop buying tokens — or if we cease trading — you are left holding a fully functional, reprogrammable computer, not a paperweight. It takes new firmware over USB-C using the standard, freely available toolchain. We will not lock the bootloader against you, and we will not push an update that disables hardware you paid for.
7. Your content
What your child asks, and what the device answers, belongs to you. We store it only as described in the Privacy Policy, only for as long as you choose, and we do not use it to train AI models. You can read it and delete it at any time.
8. Acceptable use
Do not use the service to break the law, to attempt to extract or attack the underlying models or infrastructure, to resell access, or to circumvent metering. We may suspend an account that does, and will tell you why.
9. If we shut down
Connected products for children have been switched off by their makers before, and buyers have been left with hardware that no longer works. We think you deserve to know our answer in advance: if we wind down, we will give notice, stop selling tokens, and let existing balances run out rather than voiding them. The device remains yours and remains reprogrammable.
10. Warranty and liability
The service is provided as-is. To the fullest extent the law allows, we exclude implied warranties, and our total liability to you is limited to what you have paid us in the twelve months before the claim. Nothing here limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited — including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud. You may have statutory consumer rights that these terms do not affect.
11. Changes and ending
You can stop using the service at any time and ask us to delete your account. We may update these terms; if a change materially affects you, we will email you rather than quietly editing this page.

A note on where this document stands. Watima has not shipped, and no money has been taken. These terms describe how we intend to operate and match how the product is actually built. They will be reviewed by counsel — and the governing-law, dispute-resolution and postal-address clauses completed — before the first sale.
